Elective Care - Lead Practitioner Therapy

About the Role

 

The Lead Practitioner is responsible for the leadership of the clinical practitioner and clinical support workforce in the elective care setting. The post holder will be a strong visible clinical leader, managing the performance of the clinical and clinical support workforce, providing clinical supervision and development of the team. As a senior member of the service management team the Lead Practitioner is jointly responsible with the Head of Operations for the safety and effectiveness of the service.

 

The Lead Practitioner will retain clinical credibility by continuing to practice in their role as a clinical practitioner.

 

This role is subject to an enhanced level background check through the Disclosure & Barring Services (DBS).

 

Out of hours working and on-call will be required.

Your Day to Day

  • Establish and maintain robust communication arrangements with all members of service clinical and operational team to ensure that all necessary communication channels are used to ensure effective team communication
  • Provide reports as required
  • Develop positive and effective working relationships with other members of the clinical and operational team to facilitate the acute and timely communication of information concerning clinical governance, risk management, quality assurance and the handling of any complaints, incidents and internal investigations involving the clinical team
  • Promote positive and effective working relationships with commissioners, other health care providers and other key partners to support an integrated approach to high quality patient care
  • Act, where appropriate, as a spokesperson and contact for the Division’s services for clinical enquires both internally and externally
  • Two days of clinical-based work.

 

Qualification, Experience & Training

 

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Level 1) or another registered practitioner
  • Degree or Diploma in health care or equivalent
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent
  • Clinical skills qualification or evidence of equivalent experience
  • Evidence of on-going professional or personal development
  • 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years should have been in primary care, secondary or tertiary care
  • Experience of worked as a nurse practitioner or emergency care practitioner
  • Awareness of NMC Code of Accountability and HCPC Standards of Proficiency and the HCPC / GPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics. 
  • Up-to-date knowledge in elective care 
  • Experience of leading or participating in clinical audit

 

Desirable

  • Leadership and/or management qualification
  • Experience of participating in research
  • Experience of managing patients with long term conditions
  • Knowledge of the legislation and standards of relevant healthcare regulators (e.g., CQC) 
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance frameworks and Quality Assurance tools
  • Knowledge of Human Resource issues, including people management, interviewing, appraising and coaching
  • Experience of developing protocols, procedures or guidelines
