2 Year Contract

£7.50 per hour in the first year (£8.60 for 18-20 year olds, £11.44 for over 21s)

40 hours per week

30 days annual leave per year (including bank holidays) plus an additional day off for your birthday!

As an Eden Project Apprentice you will spend on average 6 hours a week studying a taught element delivered by one of our partner training providers. Each month you will also take part in our Sustainable Enterprise programme which helps you develop a range of skills, from teamwork to communication, alongside fellow apprentices from a range of disciplines. There are also opportunities to gain experience working with a variety of other teams, to get a fuller understanding of how your department fits within the larger organisation and how your role contributes to our mission.

If you do not have your own transport available you should consider how you will travel to work, as Eden is in a rural location and public transport is not always available.

Job Description

Eden project have launched a brand new chef apprenticeship involving work-based and college training incorporating everything that supports sustainability within hospitality. You will have the opportunity to work with the freshest ingredients grown at Eden using Geothermal energy at our state-of-the-art nursery, Growing point. The variety of food we offer at Eden will enhance your learning journey as we can cater for bespoke events for small numbers or for large scale requirements during our Eden Sessions. Working with Truro and Penwith college you will have access to the best training in Cornwall.   

Role Purpose

Assist in the delivery of exciting, mouth-watering, flavoursome food to all Eden visitors in an engaging and education manner. Learning the importance of local, seasonal and sustainable food.                                                                              

Key Accountabilities

  1. Support Chefs in the production of high-quality produce.
  2. Assist in the development of new products to be sold across site. 
  3. Support all venues across the Eden Project site, from the Biome kitchens, the Core, the Med Terrace, working to help deliver our first-class events and working at our world-famous Eden Sessions.
  4. Responsible for food safety of all goods produced and ensure that the working environment is food safe.
  5. Work with apprentices across Eden to deliver group sustainable projects.

Education & qualifications

There are no formal qualifications required for this position.

Knowledge & skills

The job holder will be required to have a basic level of IT skill.

Decision- making

Decisions will be low level and routine in nature, with minimal business impact. Any complex or difficult decision making will be past to a senior member of the team.

Resourcefulness

Collaborates with colleagues and senior staff to devise innovative and creative ways to enhance the food offer we have across site.

People & asset management

There are no people management responsibilities in this role.

Communication & visitor experience

The job holder is required to engage, communicate and interact with colleagues both verbally and in writing. A good sense of customer service is required as most of our kitchens are open plan and may need to interact with our visitors.

Operational environment

The role regularly requires physical effort such as bending, lifting and working in relatively confined spaces or in cold or inclement weather. 

The candidate must have a pro-active attitude to work, a passion for food and an interest in all things involving sustainability.
